GeoSoils Consultants is looking for Soils Inspectors for 2016:

RESPONSIBILITIES:            Field observation, testing, sampling and inspection of soils, aggregates, AC, ARHM & slurry seal. Techs will be additionally responsible for shoring, pile driving, caisson, drain line, footing & slot cut inspections and are often requested to assist in our investigations as well. Under the direction of the project manager/engineer/geologist, you will perform routine field and/or laboratory tests and assist in more complex tasks, as required. You may be involved with calculations, drafting and other administrative duties, as required. Daily communication is required with site contractors, other technicians and project managers. GeoSoils will train candidates in our methodology, but you should have aptitude, interest and an understanding of construction practices and procedures. GSC encourages increasing competencies and skills through internal and external training programs including ICC, Caltrans, City of Los Angeles, NICET and OSHA.

Work Environment: You will work on active construction sites and on occasion, our testing laboratory. You will get dirty and be exposed to outside weather conditions. You will need to supply the proper safety equipment including steel toed boots, safety vests, eye protection and hard hats.

Physical Requirements: This position requires long term standing and repetitive motions. You must have the ability to use your hands to handle, feel, reach, climb & balance. You will additionally be required to crouch, stoop, crawl and kneel. You must have good hearing & vision. You may be required to drive long distances and you will regularly lift/move up to 40 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 60-80 pounds; and occasionally move more than 100 pounds [aggregate samples].

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 2 years of experience (minimum).
  • Basic math skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to read maps, follow directions, interpret engineering and construction plans.
  • Technician Certifications [desired] – Nuclear Density Gauge Certification, Caltrans 100 & 200 series certifications, City of Los Angeles Deputy Grading and/or ICC Soils.We provide ample industry related training, comprehensive benefits and a broad range of career opportunities.

GSC does not supply vehicles; therefore, you must be able to provide a vehicle suitable for use on construction sites. We will compensate you at $0.20/mile for use of your own vehicle for work related activities and offer a monthly stipend to cover your vehicles wear and tear. GSC has alternate options for vehicle use as well which we can discuss. Driver’s license verification and proof of insurance required; must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the GSC driving policy.
